Fun Ideas for Decorating Kid Bedrooms!
Author: Kristine Mulholland

Decorating kid bedrooms can be really fun, you can let your creativity and imagination soar! Presented here are some basic ideas and hints that will be helpful for decorating kid bedrooms for boys and girls.

When deciding how to decorate a child's bedroom, take into consideration the interests and personality of the child. What kinds of things are they interested in? Make a list of their favorite characters, action heroes, vacation places, sports or dance, and their favorite colors. Consider also incorporating any collections they might have into your decorating theme, such as, rock collections, bug collections, doll collections, teddy bear collections, etc. This list will be your starting place to develop a bedroom decorating theme for your child.

PLAN YOUR SPACE

Start by planning your space well. Your child will ideally have a sleeping space, a homework space, and a small play area. If your child likes to have friends sleepover, consider purchasing a daybed with a trundle. The trundle bed tucks away under the daybed when not in use! This is a great space saver! Or you may want to consider bunk beds for your child. Bunk beds are also great space savers, and work well when kids need to share a room.

When decorating kid bedrooms, make sure your child will have an area to do homework, even if your child is small now, think to the future. If you plan a space now for a desk, a younger child could use this area now for crafts, and drawing. Make sure you have a sturdy desk with lots of storage for paper, pens, pencils and the like. Also have a bookshelf available and begin stocking it with books, even when your child is young. This can help instill in them a love for reading, especially if books are readily available to them.

ORGANIZATION

Organization is the key to making the room functional and neat. A toy box can also really help keep the room neat, and if you place it at the foot of the bed, it can be used as a bench to sit on too!

PLAY AREA

If you've got the space, a small play area in your child's bedroom is a great idea. Showcase the play area with a small themed area rug and perhaps a child size table and chairs or a fun beanbag chair! Your child will love to have this special play area to share with friends.

INEXPENSIVE DECORATING IDEAS

If you don't want to spend a lot of money decorating kid bedrooms, you can change the look of the room with an inexpensive wallpaper border geared to your child's interests. There are a wide variety of wallpaper and borders nowadays with everything from dinosaurs and tree houses to carousels and princesses and everything in between

If you don't want to wallpaper the entire wall try a painting technique like sponging, and then add some cute themed cutouts. You can also purchase some artwork or fun bedroom accessories for your child's bedroom that can really perk things up!

Another fun idea is to add a favorite quote or saying on the wall. Stenciling can be time consuming and difficult, but there is an easy alternative that produces the effect of hand-stenciling using pre-made peel and stick letters that look just like hand stenciling!

Or perhaps you could just change the look with new kids bedding sets or child comforters. These are all inexpensive ways to decorate kid bedrooms.

Whatever you decide, use this opportunity to spend quality time with your
child, and just have fun together. Let your child know that his or her preferences
are important, and therefore he or she is important to you.
